Top Careers with a Psychology Degree

(I know a lot of you who read the site regularly are either working on or have recently finished getting your degree in psychology.  So, this is for all of you!) 

Psychology as a part of medical field is getting huge attention at local as well as at an international level. This interesting field has received huge exposure in the job market, as a consequence of which students are showing great interest in pursuing a course in this field. According to experts in recent years, job prospects in almost every area of psychology have increased drastically. Needless to say that the young aspirants are overwhelmed with the projected scope of this field and are looking forward to making a successful career in psychology. Although, there are a number of career options, but only few of them are in high demand, and they can be considered as follows-

Clinical psychologists: The work of a clinical psychologist primarily involves helping emotionally and mentally disturbed patients in adjusting to life. Adding to this, at times a clinical psychologist may also be involved in helping medical and surgical patients in dealing with their injuries or illnesses. In terms of work settings, a clinical psychologist generally works in independent or group practices, counseling centers, hospitals, community health clinics or centers.

Counseling psychologists: These professionals deal with normal people through discussion. Counseling psychologists heal patients who are suffering from serious personal and emotional problems. They advise people to deal with problems of day-to-day life by using various techniques like interviewing and testing.

Industrial psychologists: Industrial psychologists’ work field is entirely different from others. They work in business or government sectors. Their responsibilities mainly revolve around improving the working conditions and productivity of employees at the workplace by applying research methods and psychological principles. They also work towards the ways of attracting consumers’ interested in services and products in industries.

Forensic psychologists: Forensic psychologists provide their services in mental health settings, civil justice, and also in correctional facilities. They evaluate crime victims or offenders and also consult police and correctional facility personnel regarding the criminal case they are handling. Employment opportunities in this field are higher as one can also run private practices apart from assisting forensic psychologists upon completion of the forensic psychology graduate degree. Besides this, students with master’s degree in forensic psychology can get higher opportunities in the same field.

The need of psychologists is increasing day by day with growing number of psychological cases found in people who live in big cities and lead
hectic lives. Mental pressure created due to the busy life and chaotic work environment is compelling people to visit psychologists. No doubt, rapid realization for the need of psychologists in different areas is building proper platform to make a successful career in psychology. There are ample scopes in this field at present, and in the next few years it is expected to boom further.
